I can't allow any of that... The world must be a paradise...
— Thorn

Thorn is the leader of the Ostinato Musicians. She serves as the primary antagonist of the game and the penultimate boss.

Appearance[]

In Mobius, Thorn appears identical to Ichika Saotome, according to Shogo Satake. She possesses long black hair that falls past her shoulders and covers the right side of her face. She wears a hoop earring in the lobe of her left ear, and a star hair clip worn above the same ear. She wears the school uniform, though her bow is slightly larger with a pattern of white hexagrams on it. She is frequently depicted as carrying a conductor's baton.

Personality[]

As both an Ostinato Musician, as well as the leader of the organization, Thorn is strict and no-nonsense on top of being very serious. Following Kensuke Hibiki's defection and the emergence of the Going-Home Club, she immediately regarded them as a threat to their "paradise." She especially considers the protagonist to be dangerous, as he was the first to develop the Catharsis Effect and enlisted the aid of Aria.

When revealed to be Asuka Natsume, he is also revealed to bear a deep grudge against Shogo, having orchestrated events so that Mobius would become his own personal hell. He even went so far as to take on the appearance of Ichika, a close friend of his, just to spite him. Wheras Ichika's death has traumatized Shogo immensely, it has done nothing but fill Thorn with anger: both at Shogo and the world.

Due to Ichika's aforementioned suicide, Thorn desired the destruction of the world. Showing off his cunning nature, he was easily able to warp μ's desires in granting wishes in favor for his own: the destruction of the world. He used the Ostinato Musicians' concerts to fill her with negative energy to achieve this goal.

Asuka Natsume's history is unknown, other than that he was close friends with a girl named Ichika Saotome and Shogo Satake thirteen years prior to the events of the game. They greatly enjoyed attending concerts at the Grand Guignol, though one day, Ichika and Shogo attempted to commit double-suicide. Shogo had backed out of the idea at the last possible second, a decision which has haunted him since. Asuka, however, was enraged and swore to make Shogo's life a living hell.

At some point in time, Asuka discovered Mobius and became Thorn, modeling his appearance after the deceased Ichika. When she discovered that Shogo had also entered this world, she began to orchestrate a series of events to follow through with her promise while also attempting to have μ grant her own wish. By her own suggestion, μ founded the Ostinato Musicians, who then began concerts that would slowly begin to fill μ with negative energy, thereby warping her view on reality and make her much more willing to comply with the wish of destroying reality.

As a playable party member, Thorn fights very similarly to Suzuna with the exception of some of her versions of Suzuna's moves as well as having completely different unique support moves (R.I.P Resurrection Arc on Thorn). As the penultimate boss of the game, Thorn does not mess around and is out to kill with his difficult to dodge attacks that can one-shot anyone under Level 60 on Hard mode with relative ease while only being Level 50 at base himself, be prepared to revive anyone at any moment when fighting him or he'll make you regret challenging the musicians and trying to leave Mobius in death. Below are his statistics as interpreted by the official strategy guide as well as a list of all of his possible attacks.

Stats
LV HP Attack Defense Accuracy Evasion Critical
50 176000 2805 1870 2145 1265 165

Attacks[]

  • Lance of Destruction
    • Thorn does a backflip kick followed by a shielded flurry of stabs alongside her lance drones.
  • Thorns of Grief
    • Thorn suddenly drops from the sky with a downwards lance slam that creates a red cyclone and a shockwave for additional hits before backing up and sending the lance drones in for additional hits.
    • Inflicts Poison
  • Cage of Despair
    • Thorn quickly slashes twice before following-up by summoning chains below the target
    • Inflicts Evasion Down and Accuracy Down
  • Final Spear
    • Breaks shields on first few hits and launches into lance follow-ups
    • Has virtually no recovery, effectively allowing her to stunlock anyone who gets hit by this by simply using it over and over again.
  • Thorn Bind
    • Thorn summons a cyclone of chains below the target before sending his lances into their general location whether they dodge it or not.
    • Inflicts 2 stacks of stun with the follow-up lances inflicting Accuracy Down
  • Rejection Barrier
    • Emergency Barrier for Thorn that has lower recovery, allowing her to act out of it faster. Essentially a free shield break launch for you as long as you aren't recovering from anything else by the time he does it since you don't have long to punish it.
  • Requiem for a Lady
    • Boss Thorn's Ultimate Skill. A Rush Skill, as well as Thorn's only skill that is a desgnated Skill Type in Overdose (a.k.a the only skill that can be countered) Thorn does a dashing flurry of thrusts, followed by a drill flurry by the lance drones before finishing by creating several groups of chains around the battlefield.
    • The lance drones inflict Stress Down during this attack, and the chains launch anyone caught by them into the air.
